On a glorious Saturday in Seal Beach California the Millikan Rams Varsity and Junior Varsity Baseball teams showed their community spirit in joining the Playmakers organization for a morning of baseball activities. This inaugural event took place at McGaugh elementary school in the crisp weather of the mid-October California Sunshine.

The Playmakers organization is a non-profit that makes sports an inclusive activity for all participants. They do this by maintaining a high level of community service, and by developing life-long relationships with their volunteers and members alike.

Every Ram player or ‘buddy’ who showed up on this day was asked to engage with children and young adults with special needs or developmental differences in fun and spirited baseball activities. There were two diamonds and a grass area used to do baseball drills, play games, and interact personally with each participant. Lots of cheers, high fives, and smiles all around as the boys from Millikan did their best to encourage and assist in helping the Playmakers enjoy their morning.

This event was nothing short of inspring and uplifting for all involved. The ‘buddies’ from Millikan were so effortlessly immersed with the Playmakers members and their families that the Board Chairman for the Playmakers organization Ron Krajniak highly praised the Rams and their families for their willingness to jump in and care. He said, “we were so impressed by the volunteers (buddies) and their parents for being so positive and supporting of this program. Millikan baseball clearly has a special group of people involved, and that is something they should all be proud of.”

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this day happen – this truly was a special Saturday in the park.
